By the time you can take a reliable pregnancy
test, your baby will already have a steadily beating heart and a developing
brain and nervous system.

At two months, your baby will become sensitive
and responsive to touch. All five major areas of the adult brain are present.
Brain function, as measured by EEG waves, has been recorded as early as
40 days. |

Your baby will be cute as a button—with large
eyes, a fine little nose and a mouth which occasionally sucks a tiny thumb.

With her infant-like proportions and profile,
your baby will look like a perfect miniature doll. But unlike any doll,
she’s become very expressive—wrinkling her forehead, turning her head,
opening and closing her tiny lips.

To the right is a 14 week old little one.

| By the time you start to "show,"
your baby will already be fully formed. All she needs now is a chance to
grow and prepare for birth. In fact, infants as young as 5 months have
been able to survive premature birth. There’s evidence that the baby hears
outside noise—music, traffic, TV, people talking, and, of course, her favorite
sound: her mother's voice. |
